Anweshaa Ghosh, Programme Lead and Researcher at ISST, participated as a speaker in the panel “Gender-Intentional Pathways in AI and Digital Work” oerganised by IWWAGE and GxD hub (LEAD at Krea University).

The panel explored how women are engaging with and being shaped by digital and AI-enabled work in India, drawing on insights from the Sanmati 2.0 project. Against the backdrop of platformisation and technological change, discussions focused on access, inclusion, skills, and job quality, while examining how digital labour is defined and the structural barriers women face.

Drawing on three ISST’s studies- Beyond the Screen: Gender and Smartphone App Access, Use and Control Among Youth - A Case Study of Kalyanpuri, Delhi, Digitalisation at the Frontlines: ASHA's Experiences across Haryana, Rajasthan, Kerala and Meghalaya, and Women Workers in the Gig Economy in India : An Exploratory Study, Anweshaa highlighted the gendered digital divide, unequal access to smartphones, power and control over technology, low digital skilling among women and girls, and the lack of inclusive, gender-responsive AI design, underscoring the need for policy and institutional pathways that enable more equitable digital adoption and employment outcomes.
