CURRENT VACANCY
Position: Program Lead Capacity Building (Full-time)
Location: New Delhi
ISST seeks to add to its team a dynamic Program Lead – Capacity Building who will substantially contribute to strengthening the core work of ISST.
The Program Lead – Capacity Building, will spearhead the work of building a strong capacity-building unit within the organizations. This will include curating curricula based on the extensive work of ISST in the area of women and work; identifying the need for capacity building in this domain at various levels, - communities and institutions – non-government, government and private, conducting the training, and forging meaningful partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning and Innovations: Lead the strategic planning process for internal and external capacity-building initiatives, setting clear objectives, targets, and timelines in alignment with organizational commitment to strengthening knowledge and evidence-building towards women’s economic empowerment. Propose innovative design elements, methodologies, and training tools to achieve the desired outcomes.
- Curriculum Development: Design and curate modules drawing on the knowledge, insights, and experiences emerging from the work of the Research and Community Outreach teams.
- Deliver Training and Workshops: Design and deliver training modules, workshops, and learning material on dimensions of women’s work, care work, paid and unpaid work, and experiences of violence in the world of work; using feminist approaches to participatory and qualitative research methodologies
- Partnership Development: Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with peer organizations, academic institutions, government agencies, donor organizations, and other stakeholders to leverage resources, expertise, and networks for capacity-building initiatives.
- Resource Mobilization: Identify funding opportunities, develop proposals, and engage with donors, foundations, and other stakeholders to secure financial resources for capacity-building activities.
- Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate knowledge sharing and learning exchanges among peers, to influence the larger ecosystem working towards women’s economic empowerment. Develop strategies for effective dissemination of capacity-building initiatives, methodologies, and pedagogies within and outside the organization.
- Team Leadership: Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to the capacity-building team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning
- Liaise and Coordinate with Resource Persons: Identify appropriate experts from within ISST and outside to deliver/facilitate sessions
Qualifications:
Education: Master's or MPhil degree in gender studies, sociology, anthropology, social work, or a related field. A thorough understanding of feminist theory and its application is essential.
Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the development sector with significant work on gender equality and women's rights. Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and implementing capacity-building programs on issues of women’s livelihoods, and gender-based violence.
Participatory Training and Facilitation Skills: Demonstrated ability to engage diverse audiences and foster participatory learning environments, using appropriate training tools that promote active listening and reflection.
Diverse Training formats: Ability to work on face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats to deliver training.
Reflective and Critical Thinking: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify issues, draw out insights, and create a positive learning experience
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Hindi. Familiarity and fluency of an Indian vernacular language will be an added advantage. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, negotiate partnerships, and represent the organization effectively to external stakeholders.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment, sharing ideas, and contributing to collective goals.
Passion for Gender Equality and Social Justice: A deep commitment to feminist principles, social justice, and gender equality issues.
Adaptability: Flexibility to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to evolving capacity-building priorities.
Compensation
This is a full-time position. The compensation depends on educational qualification and experience

Position: Associate Director and Research Fellow (Full-time)

ISST seeks to add to its team a dynamic Associate Director who will substantially contribute to strengthen the core work of ISST through a spirit of collaborative team work, leadership, and organization management.
The Associate Director will work closely with the Director and at the same time have independent responsibilities. The Associate Director is expected to play a key role in strategic planning, Program management, and advocacy & partnership building.
Leadership And Strategic Planning
- Actively contribute to the development of the organization's strategic Programs and plans.
- Collaborate with the Director and other senior Fellows in developing and implementing organizational strategies.
- Enable participatory processes towards setting goals, objectives, performance bench marks
- Anchor and lead at least two program pillars.
Program Management
- Participate in recruitment, training and mentoring of staff
- Facilitate the creation and maintenance of a positive organizational culture and ethos based on mutual respect and support
- Oversee and monitor operations of various Programs, and ensure that Programs are in alignment with organization goals and strategic purpose
- Design and institute internal learning mechanisms and team building processes such as the Quarterly Research Forum, Retreat, joint meetings etc
Advocacy and Partnership building
- Advocate organization mission and goals with government officials, community leaders, and in the public domain.
- Foster strong relations with social movements and civil society organisations.
- Support the Communications team to design fund raising campaigns and other outreach efforts.
- Proactive in fundraising efforts including grant writing and building donor relationships.
Support and Assist the Director in Institution Building
- Oversee and monitor planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services.
- Work closely with the Accounts Manager and Senior Program leads to ensure effective utilization of the organization budget.
- Support the Director in statutory governance functions and organization compliance management
Candidate Profile
- Minimum Masters degree/PhD in Humanities, Social Sciences, Gender /Development Studies
- Strong grounding in gender and feminist frameworks
- Minimum 18- 20+ years’ experience as a development practitioner including independently leading operations across research, capacity building, advocacy and grassroots programs
- Substantial experience in oversight and coordination of multiple functional streams including but not limited to administration, communication, community projects, research, finance.
- Ability to facilitate group processes and manage team dynamics
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and knowledge of Hindi
Desirable Competencies
- Fluent with MS Office with advanced excel skills
- Knowledge of a third Indian language
- Proven track record of use of research for improved practice and policy to achieve social justice.
- Strong grounding in gender and feminist frameworks
The role involves frequent travel.
Salary: Salary and benefits are comparable to the non-profit sector; and commensurate with experience and internal equity.
